Most e-commerce brands have a product copy backlog they’ll never catch up to manually. Here’s how to build an AI product copy engine for Shopify — the same process we used to ship 4,200 product pages in 6 weeks for Lumen Retail.

The five-stage build

Stage 1 — Brand voice training. We pull your top-performing product copy (10–30 examples) and your brand guidelines. The model is fine-tuned to produce output indistinguishable from your best human-written copy.

Stage 2 — Product data structuring. We standardise your product data feed: title, attributes, materials, dimensions, care instructions, USPs. Clean input data is non-negotiable. Garbage in, garbage out.

Stage 3 — Template architecture. Different product categories need different copy structures. A dress description has different fields from a kitchen appliance. We define one template per major category.

Stage 4 — Production pipeline. AI generates, human reviews. Every output is checked against quality thresholds before going live. We typically batch in groups of 50–100 SKUs.

Stage 5 — Live deployment. Direct Shopify integration via API. Copy publishes automatically once approved. Performance tracked via GA4 and Search Console.

The output that actually works

Each product page produces: SEO-structured H1, meta description, 80–120 word product description, bullet point feature list, care or usage instructions, and FAQ block. All optimised for both Google ranking and on-site conversion.

The brand voice consistency is the differentiator. Generic AI output sounds generic. Trained AI output sounds like your team wrote it. Buyers don’t know the difference. Search engines don’t penalise it.

Lumen Retail: the case

4,200 SKUs with placeholder copy. A copywriter would have taken a year. We shipped it in 6 weeks. Organic traffic to product pages +34%. Conversion rate held steady (the killer outcome — quality didn’t drop).

The investment: £18,000 for the build. The alternative: hiring 2 copywriters for 6 months at roughly £40,000.

The Shopify-specific details

We integrate via the Shopify Admin API. Copy lives in the standard product description field. Custom metafields cover meta titles, meta descriptions, and FAQ structured data. Schema.org markup is injected automatically via theme.liquid edits.

If you’re on Shopify Plus, the build adds about 1–2 weeks for B2B catalogue support. If you’re on WooCommerce, the integration is via WP REST API — same architecture, different glue.

Where to start

If you have 200+ SKUs and a real copy backlog, the AI Launchpad is the right entry point. We scope the build in week 1 and ship the first 200 SKUs in weeks 4–6.
